I recall walking slowly 'round the shoreline,
Watching the seagulls soaring in the sky,
Skipping a flat rock gently 'cross the water,
Watching the ripples fading as I cry.
Where are the fishing boats,
Where are the nets and ropes?
Where are the codfish bound
When they leave the fishing grounds?
Will they return again,
Making this sadness end,
Bringing back livelihood for those who cry?
I can see stages barren on the shoreline,
Nets that lie dormant, rotting on the ground;
Boats lie in slumber, waiting for the moment,
When they can ride the waves and dally 'round.
Where are the fishing boats,
Where are the nets and ropes?
Where are the codfish bound
When they leave the fishing grounds?
Will they return again,
Making this sadness end,
Bringing back livelihood for those who cry?
Sometimes we wonder why our world is changing,
We look for answers written 'cross the sky,
Having faith while our lives are rearranging,
Praying the future brightens by and by.
