When I was a young lad around 20 years old,
I jumped on a dragger, I had nowhere to go;
I went out to sea for the very first time,
The men they were rugged and very refined.
Life on the sea is a dangerous game,
You just do your work, never complain;
Happy as they worked is this life for me,
They all sang along as we rolled out to sea.
They perfected their living and never complain,
Going out to sea it's a dangerous game;
Saltwater faces and glimmering eyes,
Stories they told as morning came nigh.
Life on the sea is a dangerous game,
You just do your work, never complain;
Happy as they work is this life for me,
They all sang along as we rolled out to sea.
Middle of October out on the Grand Banks,
Little wooden boats made only from planks;
There's lots of weather but the fishing was good,
We had to make a living, all hands understood.
The Captain yells out,
"Drop the nets now, me lads!
Let's do some fishing, let's catch what we can."
We filled up the hold,
now heading back to home base,
We were lucky this time, we made it home safe.
Life on the sea is a dangerous game,
You just do your work, never complain;
Happy as they work is this life for me,
All sang along as we rolled out to sea.
Life on the sea is a dangerous game,
You just do your work and never complain;
Happy as they work is this life for me,
They all sang along as we rolled out to sea.
Happy as they work is this life for me,
They all sang along as we rolled out to sea.
