#2248: YouTube video by David Blackmore ℗2009 ~ Used with permission ~ |
She sits in her room all alone every day,
Wondering if she's going home;
People come in then they fade away,
No one that she really knows.
She asked me to come and sit for a while,
Just to pass the time of day;
She told how the boys had just dropped her off,
Then they all went away.
Well, I could feel the tears that came to her eyes,
I gave her a tissue and to my surprise,
Then she smiled, mmmm, mmmm,
Then she smiled, mmmm, mmmm, then she smiled.
She wondered if her children would be okay,
Do you think they'll remember I'm here?
She looked out the window and then she said,
This is my favorite time of the year.
I listen to her words and to her shaky voice,
I could tell she was lonely inside:
I wait by myself every day,
But no one ever arrives.
But I could feel the tears that came to her eyes,
I gave her a tissue and to my surprise,
Then she smiled, mmmm, mmmm,
Then she smiled, mmmm, mmmm, then she smiled.
I know that I'm sick, I can't care for myself,
I suppose I'm getting old;
They don't have time for me anymore,
It's something that can't be foretold.
I look at her with a tear in my eye,
And I think as I start to cry:
Mother, I dropped in to see you today,
It's me, your oldest boy.
Well, I could feel the tears that came to her eye,
I gave her a tissue and to my surprise,
Then she smiled, mmmm, mmmm,
Then she smiled, mmmm, mmmm.
Well, I could feel the tears that came to her eye,
I gave her a tissue and to my surprise,
Then she smiled, mmmm, mmmm,
Then she smiled, mmmm, mmmm.
Mother, you smiled.
